Community Land Connection Series: Horn Ranch Historical Hike
Join Eagle County Historical Society, Eagle Valley Land Trust, and Eagle County Open Space for a guided hike of the historic stone quarry on private land at Horn Ranch from 9:30-11:30am, Thursday, October 5.
The quarry at Horn Ranch produced stones for Denver’s Brown Palace Hotel, Aspen’s Hotel Jerome and Pueblo’s Opera House in the late 1800s. Participants will learn about a unique part of Eagle County history and enjoy views of Red Canyon. Horn Ranch Open Space is protected forever through a partnership between Eagle County Open Space and Eagle Valley Land Trust.
When: The hike will be Thursday, October 5, 9:30-11:30am
Where: Horn Ranch conservation easement. Please meet at the Horn Ranch parking lot at 9:15 to sign waivers.
Directions: Horn Ranch Open Space is located on the North side of Highway 6 between Wolcott and Eagle.
Look for the wooden sign and gravel parking area.
Bring: We will be hiking in variable conditions. Those interested should come prepared to spend two hours outside with sun protection, water, proper layers for Colorado weather and sturdy waterproof shoes.
Weather: This hike is weather-dependent, please check EVLT’s Facebook page on the day of the hike for information on updates or cancellations in case of inclement weather.
